Blacktown City lead the National Premier Leagues NSW 1

A 2-1 loss to Manly United has brought Blacktown City back to the pack in the National Premier Leagues NSW competition.

The team is now just three points ahead of APIA Leichhardt Tigers SC in the race for the premiership.

Blacktown striker Joey Gibbs is confident Blacktown City can return to the winners’ circle next week against the Rockdale City Suns.

"We were a little off and had a few guys out, but no excuses, we knew what to expect from Manly,'' he told Football NSW.

"On another day we would have nicked a point or even won it. We will regroup and focus on our next game."

Gibbs scored just five minutes in for City from a deflection after a free kick, but Blacktown came to rue missed opportunities after two second-half goals to Manly’s Dejan Pandurevic.

Ahead of a busy week featuring City’s FFA Cup clash against the Central Coast Mariners at Lilys Football Centre on Wednesday, August 2, the loss came at a difficult time for Blacktown.
